DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:
The BOWMAN Programme will provide a new communications system to the British Armed Forces and enable digitization. BOWMAN is a state of the art tactical communications system; it includes everything from advanced radios to computer terminals and applications, network management, security and logistic capabilities.
BOWMAN is a major (£1.7 billion), multi-year programme to replace the tactical communications system of the British Army with a modern, secure, digital, fully integrated voice and data system based on the Canadian Army Iris system.
The BOWMAN Team of engineers and subcontractors will be developing modern wired and wireless networking approaches, battle management applications, and system management techniques using a variety of technologies.
It will involve:
Identifying modifications to the Iris system to meet the UK requirements;
Specifying and developing/procuring the equipment and software necessary to effect these modifications;
Designing many new installations for land, air and naval platforms;
Integrating the system and verifying system performance;
Provide all necessary ILS, a full training program and procurement of equipment, for the British Army.
In addition the ComBAT, Infrastructure, P-BISA (CIP) programme (£300M) builds on the Bowman foundation to provide enhanced Digitization capabilities in terms of new applications, infrastructure and integration into key platforms
Company will be the Prime Contractor and Prime System Integrator for BOWMAN/CIP and is looking for high calibre individuals to join its growing system engineering team.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To work as part of a team developing the requirements for the BOWMAN/CIP System Management Systems. Software engineering is to be conducted by remote subcontractors. This role will require significant system analysis and design, software engineering and use-case experience. The role also requires strong interpersonal skills, as there is frequent liaison with the end user and implementation team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will be required to:
Conduct requirements analysis, elaboration (using UML 2) and derivation using the company standard Integrated Product Development Process (IPDP) and MilStd-498.
System Design of System Management Systems, including definition of interfaces and concepts of employment
Solve system design problems as they present, working inter- and intra-product.
Develop design documentation in line with Military and corporate standards
Develop and process change requests based on customer and sub-contractor generated changes
Liaise with customer and sub-contractor representatives
Support other corporate functions – ILS, Training, Architecture, Programme Management, System Integration and Test, QV
Support System Technical Review Boards and System Problem Report Boards
To work closely with other company and subcontractor personnel to achieve the overall success of the BCIP programme.
To respond to the changing needs of the programme, working beyond the scope of this job description as required.
To acquire new skills and knowledge to accommodate changes in the BCIP programme and the Company business.
Work independently at times, and be prepared for the possibility of UK and international travel.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Essential
Educated to degree standard or equivalent

Exp of object orientated S/W design
Exp of working with sub-contractors and end users
Exp. In UML and Use-Case development
Exp of System Management concepts
