Roke Manor Research Ltd, a wholly owned Siemens business, is a contract research and development business offering a wide range of technologies across the fields of communications and electronic sensors.
Main Purpose
To carry out electronic equipment design and development to enable test and verification in design and production of our contract development projects.
Results Expected
Professional cost effective test equipment designs, meeting detailed requirements within set timescales.
Tasks
1. To interpret specifications and other requirements to form a suitable hardware concept and functional solutions.
2. To prepare detailed designs following the Company’s procedures.
3. To refine the design to meet the specification, staying within the schedule and profit targets and to document all aspects of the development work.
4. To interact with the product development team to meet design test, first pass yield, field failure rate and other quality targets.
5. To support sample and series production.
6. To carry out all the above tasks in close liaison with other members of the project team.
Education
2:1 or higher – BSc / BEng minimum – MSc / PhD desirable
Knowledge/Languages
Detailed knowledge of the design techniques for a wide range of electronic circuitry is required.
RF and mobile communications knowledge desirable.
Special expertise required:
Design of production test equipment.
All aspects of circuit design.
LabView (or similar) product range knowledge and experience.
Knowledge of verification methods and processes.
Experience
The ability to conduct well disciplined technical discussions mainly in the forum of project team meetings within the business is essential.
Accurate interpretation of specifications and other requirments must be realised through hardware design. The quality of the final design must be high following a minimum of scrutinisation and supervision.
Additional Information
A detailed understanding of and adherence to the company’s design and development procedures will be required.
Occasional contact; both professional and social, with representatives of customers, suppliers and the Siemens organisation is inevitable. The majority of activities will be contained within the laboratory and office areas of the business, but a willingness to make occasional visits to customers’ premises, other parts of the Siemens organisation and to attend training courses is necessary.
The importance of high quality design being realised within a fixed timescale and budget cannot be over stressed. Customer confidence in Roke Manor Research and equipment reliability is heavily dependent upon the test design engineer
