Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior System Engineer will take responsibility for the system design of various aspects of projects or support another system engineer in carrying out this role depending upon project size and complexity.Provide Systems Engineering support within a military land-based environment.Capture and analysis of system/sub-system requirements using DOORS or other computer based tools.Design of candidate system architectures to meet specified requirements using design methods and tools as appropriate.Analysis of these designs for a range of attributes (e.g. Cost, performance, ARM, ILS, resilience, safety) making use of specialist staff, where required, to carry out the modelling work.Selection of the optimum design based on defined evaluation criteria and the results of the analyses.Documentation of the system design and maintenance of requirements traceability throughout the design.Specification of hardware, software and mechanical requirements, and interfaces derived from the selected design.Planning, defining and documenting the integration, verification and validation of the system, and maintaining traceability to the requirements.Carrying out integration, verification and validation testing. Costing of proposed system designs and estimating for system design activities. Planning of system design activities. Assessing and minimising project risks by active consideration of alternative lower risk solutions or risk reduction activities.Provide technical consultancy to projects in any specialist skill/knowledge areas that the individual has gained from previous experienceDegree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics or related discipline. Able to undertake regular travel within the UK and occasional travel abroad - duration between several days and a few weeks (full driving licence required).Essential practical experience includes - more than 5 years as a Systems Engineer on large systems; experience of capture and analysis of functional and non-functional requirements; some experience of system design; familiarity with the use and implementation of Tactical Data Links; experience of communications or sensor related systems. Desirable experience would include a background in mobile military (land-based) systems and an understanding of the Defence Procurement Process.Also essential - you should be self motivated with the ability to define and achieve goals; a team player with the flexibility to cross boundaries if required; an ability to work under pressure with good communication/ presentation Skills. You will need a positive attitude, be flexible, assertive and adaptable to change
