Contract Software Engineer

Contract Embedded C Software Developer for a major Telecoms company

2+ years experience in developing mobile communications protocol stack SW for handsets or basestations (preferably GSM/GPRS/E-GPRS, but could be WCDMA, TETRA, DECT, etc.)

· 5+ years practical use of 'C' for embedded applications
· Experience of developing multi-tasking, event-driven software (finite-state machines, inter-task comms)
· Practical experience of developing IP-based communications software (TCP/IP, DHCP, TFTP, etc)
· An understanding of voice-over-IP protocols (H.323, SIP, MGCP, RTP)
· Experience in developing and debugging real-time embedded systems
· Development in a Microsoft Windows/DOS development environment
· Use of structured software design and life-cycle methodologies
· Use of source code control systems (MKS Source Integrity, PVCS, RCS or similar) and automated build systems


One or more of the following would be an advantage:
· A good understanding of GPRS/E-GPRS RLC and MAC layers
· The ability to write PC-based test harnesses and tools
· Experience of developing software for medium or high volume products
· Experience of coding device drivers for microprocessors
· Ability to use test equipment such as ?scopes, logic analysers, and in-circuit emulators
· Understanding of microprocessor-based digital hardware (buses, interrupt structures, memory, peripheral interfacing)
· Familiarity with scripting languages such as perl
· Exposure to fixed network telecomms protocols (ISDN, LAPD, SS7)
