WCDMA/GSM Test Co-ordinator

WCDMA/GSM Test Co-ordinator

As a large telecommunications group, we are looking for high calibre individuals to join our principal UK research and development facility - one of several such centres internationally.

It is a major contributor to our global product creation effort for our advanced devices and services. As an employer of choice, we have the best to offer to those who join us.

This role is for someone to plan and manage the testing of our phones on competitors networks to test features to ensure they operate on all networks - such features could be video telephony and 3G to 2G handover.

This is a pure 'management' role and will not involve any hands on work (although the person must be knowledgable in 3G technology, protocols and the SW lifecycle). Ideal candidate would be someone who has been leading a team of protocol testers but this is desirable and not essential.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

- To plan, co-ordinate and manage WCDMA/GSM protocol software interworking test (IWT) sessions between the company and network infravendors.
- To liaise with protocol software development groups in various sites to determine feature readiness, to advance the testing and to progress error correction.
- To manage and coordinate all IWT errors within the team.
- To engage as a professional who guides others and drives negotiation and analysis.
- To help establish and maintain clear mechanisms to communicate project status and change with the project team and management.

LEVEL OF THE JOB:

This is a position for a self-motivated senior test engineer, test team leader or project manager, who is flexible and interested in many areas of supporting R&D and protocol software testing.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Responsibility to perform all phases of the above activities to agreed project time scales and quality levels.
- To represent the company in communications with network infravendors.
- To understand competition and tactics needed to meet competitive challenges and use this information to decide when/if any changes to the project are required.

Requirements:

Essential:
- Broad understanding of WCDMA/GSM technologies and the protocol stack
- Demonstrable experience of the software lifecycle
- A background in error management and/or configuration control.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An interest in software testing for communication protocols.
- Good problem solving skills
- Ability to work to tight time scales with changing and sometimes conflicting requirements.
- The ability to anticipate potential problems.
- The ability to understand customer, industry and business issues, and apply this understanding to meet local objectives.
- General software development and/or test experience.
- Degree, HND in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science, or relevant experience.

Desirable:
- Embedded software development and/or testing experience
- Experience and/or knowledge of data communication protocols
- Host and/or target based testing experience
- Knowledge/understanding of 3GPP/ETSI standards.

Primary Function: R&D Software

Key words: Wireless, Telecommunications, 2G, 3G, Embedded Software Development.
