Main purpose of job
Working as a Senior Hardware Test Engineer, the job�s main purpose is to provide a competent level of test support to the Hardware Group in evaluating/verifying GSM/GPRS/UMTS mobile platforms. This requires writing some ATE test scripts, assisting design engineers, evaluating/verifying the performance of a platform from hardware perspective and writing test documents.
Line Organisation
This position reports to Hardware Group Manager within the Telecoms R & D 2 Group.
Key functions
Under the guidance of the Line Manager, the jobholder is expected to perform (but is not limited to) the following tasks:
1. carry out HW (RF & BB) performance testing of XXX Telecoms products to conformance approval standard
2. write/develop ATE software for testing of XXX Telecoms products
3. provide general test and measurement support role to members of the HW design team
4. to work with other members of the project team to ensure optimum testing.
5. perform environmental testing and evaluation of HW components, circuits and sub-systems
6. keep abreast of new developments and test techniques in the RF and BB mobile communications field
7. circulate test results and contribute to a weekly progress report, produced by the group leader
All work is to be of a professional standard, paying due regard to safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness, time scales and the needs of the company.
Authority
Advise Line manager on issues regarding test equipment and alternative equipment solutions.
Manage and report status of HW testing.
Develop, create and review processes of ATE programs.
Work with external vendors on issues relating to equipment.
All expenditure to be approved by the line manager and kept within current company policy and budget constraints.
Skills and experience
� HNC or a degree in electronic engineering or similar, preferably with a mobile communications bias in course content or project work.
� At least 1 year development experience of writing ATE programs in C, Agilent VEE, LabWindows or Visual Basic, preferably for testing GSM/UMTS mobiles.
� At least 3 year work experience of testing RF circuits and sub-systems, preferably in the GSM/UMTS mobile communications field.
� Good experience of RF/BB test and measurement techniques.
� Familiar with GSM/UMTS test sets (Agilent 8960. R & S CMU200)
� Self motivation and ability to work alone, managing own work and setting sensible priorities according to perceived requirements.
� Strong analytical and logical thinking capability.
� A good understanding of test documentation requirements.
� A competent level of presentation, communication and planning skills.
� Ability to use or learn general PC software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
